Glenn started formal classical training on the piano at age 7 and by age 13 had played his first professional engagement. During high school, Glenn studied various styles of music including music appreciation and theory. While attending Trenton State College, he began teaching piano and performing with Bob Smith and the Lamplighters, a professional big band. Glenn also performed in the college jazz stage band where he later branched off to playing solo piano and forming his own jazz group.
